Huntington Beach Name
Huntington Beach got its
name from wealthy Los
Angeles investor, Henry E.
Huntington. The town
received the Pacific
Electric (red car) railroad
in exchange for a name
change from Pacific City to
Huntington Beach.
Henry Huntington was not
initially interested in
placing the rail lines in
Huntington Beach in 1900
when the local business and
land developers asked him to
invest. In exchange for the
rail system, they would give
their town (not incorporated
at that time), Huntington's
name.
Tourists often confuse
the name with the name of
the Huntington Library and
Gardens in San Marion south
of Pasadena, California.
That was where Huntington
lived. His mansion is opened
to the public. There's an
art museum, research library
and spectacular gardens you
can tour at the Huntington
Library, approximately 35
miles from Huntington Beach.
The city enjoys great
location, good schools and
fantastic weather. It is a
great place to visit or
reside.
